Resistance
Everything that steers you in therapy away from a topic that is too close — forgotten appointments, jokes, long detours.
How it shows up in daily life
Suddenly you don’t feel like coming. Or you arrive and spend half an hour talking about work, though you came for something else. That isn’t laziness and it isn’t going backwards — it is a sign that we are close to something that hurts.
What we do with it in therapy
We don’t break through resistance by force. We take it as information: what would happen if we really opened this? Often resistance is the most reliable indicator of where the work is.
