A Look into the Past (genogram)

Ninety minutes, one large sheet of paper and your family tree. Together we draw a genogram and look at which patterns repeat in your family — and what you carry with you from them.

90 minutes · contribution €120 · in person in Ljubljana

What a genogram is

A genogram is a family tree that records relationships alongside names and dates: who was close to whom, who was in conflict with whom, who was cast out, where there was illness, loss and secrecy. It is a tool that has been used in marriage and family therapy for decades.

The power of a genogram lies in the fact that a pattern only shows up across a span. One story is a story. Three generations of the same story is a pattern — and a pattern can be addressed.

This session is designed as a complete experience. It can be an introduction to regular therapy, or it can stand on its own. Many people come precisely because they do not want regular therapy right now, or cannot manage it.

You may recognise yourself
  • something repeats in your family and you do not know where it began
  • you wonder where your responses in relationships come from
  • something in the family was never spoken about
  • you have become a parent and do not want to pass everything on
  • you want the experience of therapy without committing to a process
  • you are preparing for a conversation with your parents and need a map

You do not have to match any of these lines. They are simply what people most often come with.

How this looks

How those 90 minutes go

You do not need to prepare anything. It is enough that you come.

  1. 01

    Agreement

What interests you and where you would like us to look deeper. Ten minutes.

  2. 02

    Drawing

Three generations: who is who, when, with whom. We add relationships and events as we go.

  3. 03

    Pauses

Wherever something stirs or tightens, we stop. That is usually where the most is.

  4. 04

    Connections

At the end we draw out the threads that run through the generations — and what that means for you today.

In practice

How we work

  • 01

You take the sheet with you

The genogram is yours. Many people later add to it themselves or with their family.

  • 02

    No homework beforehand

Ne potrebuješ datumov, dokumentov ali raziskav. Kar veš, je dovolj za začetek.

  • 03

All the details stay with you

Družinske zgodbe so občutljive. Zanje veljajo enaka pravila zaupnosti kot za vse drugo.

  • 04

    An empty evening afterwards

I recommend not planning anything after the session. Things often settle only in the evening.

First step

How to begin

  • 01

    Write me a few lines

Through the form or by email. You do not have to explain everything — what brings you and roughly when a session would suit you is enough.

  • 02

    I reply personally

Within two working days at the latest. Together we find a time for a session at my practice in Ljubljana.

  • 03

    Introductory session

It is for getting to know each other and commits you to nothing. If we decide to continue, we go through and sign an informed consent form together.

Why the contribution is lower

I am a trainee enrolled in the specialisation programme in marriage and family therapy. That is exactly why the contribution is lower than usual — and exactly why I review every case regularly with a licensed supervisor.

Straight with you

I provide this service as a trainee under supervision

I am a marriage and family therapist in training and I am enrolled in the specialisation programme. I do not do this work alone: I review every case regularly with a supervisor who is licensed and has many years of practice.

In supervision we discuss the content of sessions without any details by which you could be identified — the supervisor never learns who you are. For you this means that behind me stands not only my own knowledge, but also the experience of someone who follows the work from the outside.

Take the first step

Write me a few lines about what weighs on you. I am happy to answer questions before you decide.

This is what insomnia taught me. What has it taught you? Traumatic experiences can leave you weakened — on recovery and strength. On the worries that drain our energy. On why differentiation matters in relationships. Self-confidence starts with self-awareness. On how hard it is to start — and harder still to keep going.
