Family myth
The story a family tells about itself, which determines what is allowed to be seen.
How it shows up
»We’re very close in our family.« »We never argue.« The myth isn’t a lie; it is a chosen version that holds the system together. Whoever breaks it becomes the problematic member.
What we do with it in therapy
We don’t demolish the myth; we look at what had to stay outside it. That is usually where the thing the person came with is found.
