Genogram
A family tree that maps not only kinship but relationships, patterns and events across three generations.
How it shows up in daily life
A great deal of what you take to be a personal trait — that you find it hard to ask for help, that you withdraw in conflict, that you’re always the responsible one — didn’t begin with you. It is a pattern that repeats in the family; it’s just that nobody ever drew it on paper.
What we do with it in therapy
We make the genogram together, in one longer session. Once the patterns are visible they lose some of their power: what was »just how it is« becomes something that began somewhere, once — and that can end with you.
