Chronic stress
A state of permanent readiness in which the body never quite switches the alarm off.
How it shows up
Shallow sleep, tense shoulders, digestive trouble, a short fuse, frequent colds. Because it developed slowly, you take it for your nature rather than a state.
What we do with it in therapy
The first step is making it visible — most often through the body rather than through thought. Then we look at what maintains it: often it isn’t one large burden but the absence of pauses.
