Relational family therapy

A Slovenian model connecting the systemic view with bodily experience and with the affect transmitted between family members.

Term

What it means

The central idea is that the most painful feelings are transmitted between family members and are often resolved not through words but through regulation within the relationship.

What we do with it in therapy

Part of my training comes from this model. In practice it means the attention isn’t only on what you say, but also on what happens bodily between us.

Does some of this sound familiar?

An explanation is one thing, the experience another. If you'd like to talk it through with someone, write to me.

This is what insomnia taught me. What has it taught you? Traumatic experiences can leave you weakened — on recovery and strength. On the worries that drain our energy. On why differentiation matters in relationships. Self-confidence starts with self-awareness. On how hard it is to start — and harder still to keep going.
