The therapeutic relationship
The relationship between you and your therapist, which isn't the frame for the work but the working tool itself.
How it shows up in daily life
What you do in relationships outside will sooner or later show up in the therapy room too: if you withdraw, you’ll withdraw here; if you accommodate, you’ll accommodate me. That isn’t an interference with the process, it is the process.
What we do with it in therapy
When it happens, we talk about it out loud. In this relationship — where it is safe and where nobody leaves — you have the chance to experience a different outcome from the ones you’ve had. Research consistently shows that the quality of this relationship is one of the strongest predictors of the outcome of therapy, regardless of method.
