Transgenerational transmission
The passing of patterns, rules and unprocessed distress from generation to generation, mostly without words.
How it shows up in daily life
Something in the family isn’t spoken about — a loss, a debt, an addiction, a child who died. Nobody states the rule, yet everybody knows it. The next generation doesn’t inherit the story; it inherits the silence around it and the tension that silence creates.
What we do with it in therapy
We look for what went unsaid in the family and what had to stay unsaid for the family to hold together. Once something has a name, the burden redistributes: it is no longer your personal failing, but something you carried forward.
