People-pleasing
A pattern in which you systematically put someone else's need before your own to keep the peace.
How it shows up
You say yes when you mean no. You have no opinion until you’ve heard someone else’s. People find you pleasant, while you increasingly feel a quiet resentment you don’t understand.
What we do with it in therapy
Accommodating others was once a safety strategy. We practise small, manageable refusals — and, harder still, bearing the discomfort that follows them.
