Anxious attachment
A pattern in which uncertainty in a relationship intensifies the need for closeness and reassurance.
How it shows up
Checking when they were last online. Messages you send and regret. The feeling that you have to hold the relationship together at all times or it falls apart. Underneath is an old experience that closeness wasn’t reliable.
What we do with it in therapy
We don’t learn to feel less, but to bear uncertainty without immediately trying to remove it. That capacity is built slowly, in a relationship that stays.
