Crisis

The moment when your existing ways no longer suffice — danger and opportunity at once.

Term

How it shows up

A crisis isn’t just severe distress; it is a state in which the old answers don’t work. That is why it is often the entry point into therapy — while things somehow keep going, few people decide to change.

What we do with it in therapy

First stabilisation and safety, only then understanding. Questions about the meaning of a crisis aren’t due in the acute phase.

An explanation is one thing, the experience another. If you'd like to talk it through with someone, write to me.

This is what insomnia taught me. What has it taught you? Traumatic experiences can leave you weakened — on recovery and strength. On the worries that drain our energy. On why differentiation matters in relationships. Self-confidence starts with self-awareness. On how hard it is to start — and harder still to keep going.
