Reconciliation
Restoring a relationship after a rupture — unlike forgiveness, it always requires both people.
How it shows up
You can forgive alone. You cannot reconcile alone. Reconciliation requires the other person to take their share and for the behaviour to change; without that it is only a truce, holding until the next trigger.
What we do with it in therapy
With couples and families we work out what is genuinely possible. Sometimes the most honest outcome is an agreement about respectful distance, not restored closeness.
