Depression
Persistently low mood and loss of interest, lasting weeks and changing how you function, sleep and feel.
How it shows up
It isn’t sadness that passes. It is a heavy emptiness in which simple tasks seem insurmountable, and a voice that interprets everything to your disadvantage. Disturbed sleep, changed appetite and physical slowing often come with it.
What we do with it in therapy
Psychotherapy works for mild and moderate depression; for more severe forms a combination with medical treatment makes sense. I am not a doctor and I don’t make diagnoses — if I judge that you need a psychiatric assessment, I will say so clearly.
Therapy is not emergency care. If you are in severe distress or at risk, call 112, an on-call doctor, or the Slovenian mental distress helpline Klic v duševni stiski, 01 520 99 00 (7 pm to 7 am).
