Regret

The pain of what you did or missed — and one of the most stubborn brakes on deciding.

How it shows up

Research shows that in the long run people regret what they didn’t do more than what they did. In the short run it is the reverse — which is why, at the moment of decision, doing nothing feels safer.

What we do with it in therapy

We don’t try to remove regret. We do look for what it tells you about what matters to you — and what can still be done about it.

Does some of this sound familiar?

An explanation is one thing, the experience another. If you'd like to talk it through with someone, write to me.

This is what insomnia taught me. What has it taught you? Traumatic experiences can leave you weakened — on recovery and strength. On the worries that drain our energy. On why differentiation matters in relationships. Self-confidence starts with self-awareness. On how hard it is to start — and harder still to keep going.
