The sandwich generation

The position of people caring at once for their children and for their parents.

Term

How it shows up

Demands from two directions and no direction from which support arrives. Your own needs are postponed indefinitely, which is sustainable for a few months, not a few years.

What we do with it in therapy

We look at what is genuinely your task and what you took on because there was an empty place. And then, who else could carry a share.

On why differentiation matters in relationships. Self-confidence starts with self-awareness. On how hard it is to start — and harder still to keep going.
