Anxiety
A response to a danger that isn't here — the body prepares for something that hasn't happened and often won't.
How it shows up in daily life
Tightness in the chest, a clenched stomach, thoughts running ahead into the worst scenario. Anxiety isn’t fear of something concrete; it is readiness for everything at once. That is why it is so exhausting — the body works overtime for an event that never arrives.
What we do with it in therapy
We don’t work on how to remove anxiety, but on what it protects you from and what happens if you stop fighting it. Fighting anxiety generally strengthens it. Alongside that we learn to settle the body, because you can’t think from a state of overwhelm.
